In my opinion, this mosaic is the most beautiful piece of artwork in the entire church. It depicts the crucifixion, anointing and burial of Jesus, from right to left. The detail is unbelievable.

Well, I'm back in the States, but I'm leaving this blog up for now, and possibly adding a little to it. Since I left Israel the news has been hopeful, but I hardly know what to expect next. Hi honey, we're home!
The pictures & descriptions of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre are very vivid and fascinating. As you know, Dad & I saw a special about it on TV recently, & learned a lot from that too. They talked a lot about a couple who came to authenticate the place where Jesus was reputedly buried (the place under the big dome), and what they found out, and the known history of the building. I absolutely love mosaic art & would love to see the piece of art you saw here.
