Funny how music signifies things for you

Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah is one of my favorite songs, and Beth and two of her friends like to play it whenever they're in our room, so I've been listening to the Jeff Buckley version I have on my computer a lot. For a long time I thought it was strange that they always thought it was a serene, even happy song, while it's always hit me as incredibly sad and mournful. Today I read something that mentioned September 11th, I don't remember what, but I remembered that in the days after 9/11, MTV or VH1 used to play that song with footage from NYC practically on a loop, and I think I watched it every time. I'd forgotten about that.
