There's conflicting reports right now, but Beth and I are web surfing and trying to figure out if Arafat is really dead.
Earlier today, Google had an amusing lineup of news titles. First was "Palestinian Aide - Arafat in coma." Under that link, "Arafat not in a coma," Directly under that, "Arafat's condition unclear."
Haaraetz has a scrolling text for radio reports that I'm looking at now that are equally amusing:
17:54 Arafat adviser Nabil Abu Rudeineh: PA Chairman in critical condition, but not comatose
18:14 Radio Monte Carlo: PA Chairman Arafat is clinically dead; Sources in Paris: Arafat is dead
18:25 Radio Monte Carlo: Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat is dead
18:28 Al Arabiyeh: Ahmed Qureia, Mohammed Rashid deny reports that Arafat is clinically dead
18:37 Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker says PA Chairman Arafat died 15 minutes ago
18:39 French hospital spokesman: Arafat`s medical situation is complex, he is not dead
In any case, if he's not dead yet, there seems to be good reason to believe he will be soon. I honestly have no idea what's going to happen here once he does.
